Total Hip Arthroplasty in Dubai
Dr. Omar Sabri has decades of experience consulting and performing hip procedures and has conducted thousands of hip replacement surgeries with extremely high success rates and long-term patient satisfaction.
What Happens In The Procedure?
During hip replacement surgery, the surgeon makes an incision to expose the hip joint and replace the damaged sections of the hip joints with prosthesis implants made from ceramic, metal, plastic, or a combination of those materials. Your new artificial joint will adhere to your hip bone, reduce pain, and increase your range of motion and mobility.
Implant Components
Artificial hip joints are made of different designs and materials. The hip joint prosthesis has two main components: the ball and the socket implant一the ball is a femoral component, and the socket is a cup-like depression in the acetabulum (hip bone).
The prosthetic components may be press-fit or cemented into the bones. Dr. Sabri decides whether press-fitting or cementing the components is best based on the patient’s bone strength and porosity.
What To Expect?
Before the surgery
You will have a general clinical and physical examination by Dr. Sabri before hip arthroplasty in Dubai. This will include questions about your medical history, blood tests, and a thorough physical examination of your hip to test the range of motion and check hip strength. In addition, Dr Sabri can ask for multiple angular scans of the hip. The clinical trials will include questions about your medical history, blood tests, and a thorough physical examination of your hip to test its range of motion and hip muscle strength. In addition, Dr. Sabri may also ask for multiple angular X-ray scans of the hip.
During the surgery
Dr. Sabri will make an incision to expose the muscles behind the hip; he will then mobilize the muscles with minimal cutting to expose the joint and remove the damaged portions. He will accurately place retractors around the hip to provide the best possible exposure to perform the surgery as safely as possible.
Dr Sabri will start by preparing the socket for a seeding implant. At first, the femoral head is detached from the acetabulum socket. Then, the socket is resurfaced,, and a metal cup with a ceramic or polyethylene liner is inserted into the pelvis.
Next, the femur component is inserted for the preparation of an accurately placed channel within the femur. This can be ideally done using a press-fit technology or bone cement. Once the implant components have been safely inserted and then assimilated, the hip is relocated back for both components to start articulating together. The leg length and soft tissue tension of muscles around the hip are checked at the stage.
Once Dr Omar is happy that bone components are in accurate alignment with leg length and soft tissue tension, the closure of the hip joint is then started.
After the surgery
Dr Sabri is expected to start your activity on the same day of surgery. You get some exercises to perform in bed and you will be able to stand and possibly walk on the first post-operative day.
The in-hospital stay is usually 1 to 3 days, depending on the pre-existing medical condition. By the time you are ready to leave the hospital, patients will be able to go up and down the stairs independently, on and off in the tour independently, and in and out of the car independently.
Dr Sabri likes to use hydrotherapy during the inpatient stay which is a specific postoperative protocol that only he deploys as the hydrostatic pressure of water helps in the reduction of swelling and increase muscle power and mobility very quickly.
Diet
Loss of appetite is very common for several weeks after surgery, as reported by Dr. Sabri. However, taking a balanced diet with an iron supplement is important for proper tissue healing and restoring muscle strength. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids.

Frequently Asked Questions
You will initially require the assistance of a close friend or loved one for everyday tasks such as dressing and showering. The length of time you will require assistance varies depending on the patient, but it is usually between a few days and a few weeks.
Most patients will shower while still in the hospital on the second day after surgery. You may require a shower seat and a handheld showerhead when you return home to bathe comfortably and safely. Your surgeon may also advise you to cover your incision when bathing.
Throughout your hospital stay, your surgeon will oversee your care. While in the hospital, you will most likely see your surgeon, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner several times. Two to four weeks after hip arthroplasty in Dubai, you will also have a follow-up appointment at the orthopedic clinic.
Yes. Physical therapy is a vital factor in your total hip replacement recovery. Physical therapy will commence the day after your surgery and will continue for several weeks. To begin, you will perform simple exercises such as contracting and relaxing your muscles to strengthen your hip. In order to protect your hip replacement, you will also learn new movement techniques for sitting, standing, and bending. Patients typically attend physical therapy twice a week for 6-8 weeks.
The specific exercises are determined by the patient and their rehabilitation objectives. For example, if the patient lives in a house with many stairs, the physical therapist may prioritize preparing the patient to go up and down stairs. If a patient wishes to swim freestyle, the physical therapist will teach him or her exercises to prepare the hip for flutter kicking.
Physical therapy is critical to hip replacement rehabilitation regardless of individual goals. Patients who attend their physiotherapy appointments and complete their prescribed exercises recover faster and have better outcomes than those who do not.
Do:
To minimize pain and swelling, apply ice or an ice pack wrapped in a towel.
Before exercising, apply heat to help it expand its range of motion.
In the early stages of recovery, keep the leg elevated as much as possible to reduce pain and swelling.
